Nationalmuseum is a government agency with approximately 160 employees tasked with promoting art, interest in art, and art history. The museum's collections include painting, sculpture, drawings, and graphics from the 16th century to the turn of the 20th century, while the collections of decorative arts and design, as well as portrait art, extend to the present day.
The collections are displayed in the main building on Blasieholmen, Stockholm, and at approximately 20 other visitor sites, including Gripsholm Castle, Läckö Castle, Nationalmuseum Jamtli in Östersund, and the Gustavsberg Porcelain Museum. Nationalmuseum also conducts exhibition, program, research, and publication activities, as well as lending operations. We strive to be a museum where everyone feels welcome and offer a broad range of activities both on-site and digitally. By providing contemporary perspectives on history and historical perspectives on the present, we enable in-depth conversations about art and design for all ages.
Do you want to contribute to more young adults discovering the power of art and seeing the museum as a place for self-expression, dialogue, and new perspectives? Nationalmuseum is seeking a Junior Curator for the educational department, with a special focus on young adults, digital formats, and artistic methods.
Together with us, you will help realize Nationalmuseum's vision: to reach more people and be a living place for meetings, learning, and co-creation – with art at the center. You will work practically with planning and implementing educational activities connected to the museum's collections, with a particular focus on young adults. The role also involves developing digital formats and content for social media that can spark curiosity, create engagement, and make the museum's collections relevant to a younger audience.
The position is part of the museum's educational unit and involves both developmental and supportive tasks within public activities. You will work closely with educators, curators, and other professional groups within the museum and contribute to tours, workshops, programs, digital communication, and other public formats.
As a Junior Curator, you will work with artistic methods, workshop planning, and audience-adapted mediation. You will also contribute to the general educational activities and be part of the ongoing work to develop the museum's offerings for different audiences.
Requirements
- Master's degree from an art university or in art history.
- Documented good knowledge of Nationalmuseum's collection areas.
- At least two years of documented experience in public work within a major state art museum.
- Documented experience in developing, planning, and implementing educational formats, workshops, or projects for the public.
- Knowledge of artistic methods and experience with workshop planning.
- Documented education in project management or team leadership.
- Experience working with digital content for social media and audience-adapted digital communication.
- Very good ability to communicate orally and in writing in Swedish and English.
Merits
- Very good knowledge of an additional non-European language.
- Experience in educational or artistic work with young adults.
- Experience in developing digital formats for younger audiences.
- Ability to formulate short, engaging, and audience-adapted texts for public contexts and social media.
- Good knowledge of contemporary cultural life and issues that engage younger audiences.
- Experience working with participation, co-creation, or new visitor groups.
We place great emphasis on personal suitability. For this position, very good social competence, teamwork skills, and the ability to meet different audiences in a listening, inclusive, and professional manner are required.
